2011/2012 United Way Campaign
STRONGER TOGETHER we have accomplished a lot in these last couple of months and will stay STRONGER TOGETHER over the next few months to reach our goal.
We would like to thank all of the campaign coordinators in their organizations for their hard work in securing a great campaign. Please take a look at some of the events that have been taking place in local companies around our community.

United Way History
United Way began 120 years ago in Denver, Colorado with a handful of community leaders working together to raise resources to help children and families and became known as the Community Chest. Over the years we have operated under a number of names and our expertise and focus has always been on human services. Your local United Way of Sarasota County was formed in 1947.
United Way's Unique Role
Today we continue our work to advance the common good by focusing on quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.
- We focus on just one thing, health and human services.
- We give you an accountability level involving your own community leadership that monitors results; and brings other supporters to the kind of causes you believe in.
- United Way is able to leverage your gift. For every dollar you give to United Way, we are able to leverage additional funding from other sources.
Leadership and Expertise in Human Services
- Ability to leverage funding dollars to create initiatives with measurable outcomes improving all areas of a family's life
- Strong, experienced and diverse board of directors and community leadership
- Conservative fiscal management with experienced volunteer committees overseeing expenditures and endowment investments
- Knowledge of the community and responsiveness to its needs with the ability to create programs as issues arise, such as 2-1-1, Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness, Building Strong Families, Success By 6™, and Financial Stability Partnership™ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
